Borghesi: “It's crazy the level that we reached this year”

Letizia Borghesi (EF Education-Oatly): “I had a flat tyre so I had to chase, like I think I came back after four sectors or something like that. I just knew coming back will be hard because the group was chasing hard, they were not gonna leave the others to go away. Then yeah, when I came back to the first group I tried already a couple of moves and that group was racing really aggressively. SD Worx was trying to control the gap but it was not easy. I was following the attack before Pauline went away and at that moment we couldn't follow her. In the end I'm happy about my performance and our team performance. From Omloop Nieuwsblad, I had a really good condition. At Strade Bianche and Milano-Sanremo in the end I showed that on the climbs I was with the best riders and it gave me a lot of confidence going into Flanders and Roubaix. These are my favourite races, so this was my goal of my first part of the season and this year I reached a level that I didn't have in the past. I'm really proud how I'm developing as a rider. I improved year after year, without forcing, leaving myself time for my body to grow, step by step. So I think I have a solid base for the future and I'm really happy about this result. This will give us an extra confidence for the future. We have a really, really strong team. We achieved a lot of amazing results already. We know that we can really fight with the biggest teams and it's crazy the level that we reached this year, we are working well together.”
