Garin, Coppi, Merckx, Bobet, Duclos-Lassalle, Hinault… The legend of the Queen of Classics, Paris–Roubaix, goes all the way back to 1896, predating the inaugural edition of the Tour de France by seven years. The Hauts-de-France Region, a major partner of a race that brings out tens of thousands of fans along its roads year after year, is proud to renew its support for this event. It is also proud to have stood for decades behind this great and beautiful race, which will follow in the footsteps of other major classics this year by organising a women›s race a few days ahead of the men›s one. After the resounding success of the first edition in autumn 2021, the Lille European Metropolis (MEL) is delighted to host the second running of Paris–Roubaix Femmes!
MEL works on a daily basis for the benefit of the 95 towns and cities that make it up and their 1.2 million inhabitants on a daily basis. It has powers in crucial areas, such as transportation, housing, the economy, domestic waste and sport. MEL has been implementing an ambitious sport policy for several years. It fights for inclusive sport with initiatives such as releasing support funds for building or renovating sports facilities, as well as the organisation of mass events such as "MEL SPORTS", which give people in the metropolitan area the chance to attend matches of its leading clubs. It also supports top-flight sports, especially women's sports. Furthermore, it backs twenty sports clubs, fourteen of which are women's or mixed clubs. In the context of the "Terre de Jeux 2024" label, it supports 24 young athletes, including eight young women, who are building up to the Paris Olympics.
Hosting big international competitions is one of MEL's hallmarks: 2023 Rugby World Cup, 2024 Olympic handball tournaments and, as soon as 6 July this summer, the start of stage 5 of the Tour de France. Welcome to the Tour Village near MEL HQ!
