Wiebes: “I can be really happy with what we achieved"

Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime): “At the end of the race, out of nowhere, I cramped a bit in my legs when they attacked in the last four kilometres, but today I could not afford to get fourth. I didn't say to Lotte (Kopecky) at all to not attack. I only said to her, not to attack when I'm leading at the front. So that's a big difference and I think that Pauline (Ferrand-Prevot) came with pretty good speed from the back, and they went away in some attacks before that. I mean we were only with the two of us (teammates) in this group, so it's also hard to react to everything, so sometimes you have to gamble. It was not that we were looking at each other like ‘who's gonna react?’, that was not my feeling. We know that Pauline is super strong, but you cannot react to every attack all the time. I think at the end we did everything we could and also with the early attack from Ellen van Dijk, that was also really dangerous to let her out in the front because you know, she can finish it off in a longer distance. So maybe with our team if we had more girls in this group, then of course we would keep the gap closer. But we were fighting for it all the time and I don't think it will be different in other races. We were still fighting for each other and keep on going. I mean it's easy when you win all the races, but you cannot always win. I would say it's mixed feelings because you want to win and I think in this team we have really a winning mentality. I mean when I look back to the rest of the spring classes, I think I can be really happy with what we achieved and it's still not over yet because the Ardennes classics are coming up. I think I’ll sleep a bit less tonight than when I'm winning but maybe in a couple of days I will be also be proud of this result.”
